What to Include on the Referral
A complete referral helps us triage appropriately and avoids delays. Where possible, please include:
Cases We Prioritize
The following referrals are triaged on a priority basis. Please indicate urgency clearly on the referral.
Urinary Retention
Patients who are catheter-dependent or unable to void are prioritized for both consultation and surgical booking. Please flag on the referral.
Renal Mass on Imaging
A suspicious renal mass identified on ultrasound, CT, or MRI should be assessed by a urologic surgeon in a timely manner. If your patient has a new renal mass finding and you are unsure where to refer, we are happy to see them promptly.
Gross Hematuria / Bladder Mass
Visible blood in the urine requires investigation. Patients with frank hematuria or a bladder mass seen on imaging should be referred for cystoscopy and workup without delay.
Nephrectomy
When nephrectomy (partial or radical) is indicated, timely surgical planning matters. If your patient has been diagnosed and is awaiting surgical consultation, we aim to see them within a reasonable timeframe.
For Patients
A referral from your family physician or nurse practitioner is required. If you would like to be seen by Dr. Yan, please ask your doctor to send a referral to the fax number or email address above. If your situation is urgent, ask them to mark it as such.
